POW #1 Broken Eggs
Problem Statement- There was a lady who lived on the farm. Therefore has chickens laying eggs. She put eggs in groups of two and one egg left over. Then put them in a group of three and had one egg left over. Same Thing happened with the numbers 4,5,6. But when she put groups of seven nothing was left over.
Process- I got started by trying figure out how to get multiples of 7. I got stuck on how to figure out if the numbers fit in or not. However, i got unstuck by squaring 721(multiplying it by itself) 721 x 721= 579,841. And then dividing it with every number that followed the rule that each had a remainder if 1. So divide the number by 2,3,4,5,6. I knew when to stop when i saw all the numbers when dividing followed the rule of each number have a remainder of 1. What i think was a waste of time was finding all the multiples for each number. Solution- My solution was 721 and 301. That was the only answer that fit in with all the numbers following the rule of the remainder of 1. 301 and 721 are both one of the answers i found. While they are existing solutions to the problem these were the only ones I could find. Evaluation- a. I do think this problem was educational because in the process of the problem will be review with all the division and multiplying.I learned math won't always be very easy. I would make it less difficult which meaning less thinking. However make it shorter. I can honestly say i did enjoy working on this problem because we got work in groups , but also individual which made it less stressing out with your group helping you out. In my opinion this problem was a pretty hard until I got the help because i need someone to explain it to me so I can learn it. |
